Find out about a Prozac lawsuit if you took the antidepressant while pregnant and your baby suffered birth defects. The active ingredient in Prozac is Fluoxetine. In a July 2011 study this ingredient was found to cause a slightly higher risk of birth defects in babies born to women who had a Prozac pregnancy.
The study was published in Obstetrics & Gynecology and has sparked more than one Prozac lawsuit in the six months since it came out. There is no proof that Prozac causes birth defects, however. The study merely suggests a link between taking Prozac while pregnant and giving birth to babies with birth defects.
Prozac went off patent ten years ago, but has since been re-branded by Eli Lily & Co, the manufacturers, as Sarafem. Sarafem is marketed to women suffering PMDD.
The Prozac lawsuit covers any drug that includes the ingredient Fluoxetine. If birth injuries occurred and the mother took Fluoxetine while pregnant, there may be a case for a Prozac lawuit (or Sarafem, etc).
